Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky

4.8 out of 5 (1 review)

Tomatin was established in 1897 in an isolated Highland valley, timed to take advantage of the newly arrived Highland Railway. The name derives from Scottish Gaelic 'Tom Aitinn'—'hill of the juniper'—a nod to the herbs once favoured by illicit distillers. Today, Tomatin produces predominantly unpeated, light and fruity whiskies, with the bulk destined for blended brands like Antiquary and Talisman.

This 13-year-old Highland single malt has been matured in ex-bourbon casks, contributing to its approachable, fruit-forward profile. The distillery's philosophy is restrained: no peat smoke, but rather an emphasis on the natural character of barley and wood.

On the nose, expect lemon, vanilla, and a hint of pine. The palate brings sweet barley and cracked pepper, with fresh apple notes emerging. The finish is clean and dry, with oak present but not dominating. This is a whisky that values balance and drinkability over layered complexity—a straightforward, well-made dram from the Highlands.
