Old Grand-Dad 114 Single Barrel 7 Year Old
About
Old Grand-Dad was founded in 1882 by Raymond B. Hayden, a third-generation distiller, and named after his grandfather Meredith Basil Hayden Sr.—a legendary farmer-distiller whose craft shaped the family's whiskey-making for generations to come. This Single Barrel expression at 114 Proof builds on that legacy, employing the classic high-rye recipe (63% corn, 27% rye, 10% malted barley) and aging for seven years in char #4 barrels. The Single Barrel selection brings greater depth and individuality than the standard bottling. Each cask is hand-selected by the Jim Beam Distillery team in Clermont, Kentucky, resulting in a whisky with more complexity than the brand's everyday offering typically delivers. The nose reveals richer, confectionery-forward notes than expected, with dark fruit—stewed figs, dates, and plums—alongside dry oak and spice. On the palate, caramel and cinnamon lead, supported by toasted nut and oak wood. The finish stretches long and warm, with pleasant heat that never overwhelms, oak and spice lingering through the fade.
