About

In 2005, fisherman John Baker spotted something extraordinary in the sea: a bright yellow submarine, three miles off Islay's coast. After three months in a garden in Port Ellen, it turned out to be a lost Royal Navy vessel. Bruichladdich seized the moment and released this 14-year-old single malt in its honour—Whisky of Mass Distinction II, the iconic yellow sub emblazoned on the label. Matured in bourbon, quarter, and sherry casks, this Islay balances fruit and wood with restraint. The nose opens with sweet apricots and honey, followed by spicy oak and a whisper of smoke. On the palate, peat emerges alongside citrus rind, vanilla, and black pepper—oily and warming. The finish is long, with lemon and orange zest, earthy peat, and a peppery fade. More than a story: a layered, citrus-forward dram that tempers Islay's smoke with sweetness and oak grip.
