About

Càirdeas means 'friendship' in Gaelic, and this annual limited edition is created for the Friends of Laphroaig community. Each year the distillery experiments with different cask types; for 2026, Laphroaig chose French oak—timber traditionally used for wine and cognac. The result is a whisky that retains Laphroaig's unmistakable character while feeling refined and fresh. French oak brings structure, depth, and finesse to the powerful Islay intensity. The whisky is mahogany-hued, oily and chewy in texture. Laphroaig's signature peat smoke, briny sea air, and earthy power are unmistakably present, yet the French oak adds a softer, more elegant dimension. On the nose, smoky, sweet, and savory aromas intertwine: peat, leather, and a salty maritime note that instantly evokes Islay. The palate unfolds in layers—campfire smoke, vanilla, black licorice, and a bright fruity lift. The finish carries smoke, sea salt, and subtle sweetness, wrapped in a soft elegance that lingers.
