PAX 44 draws its name and story from an improbable encounter in September 1944. During the Battle of Arnhem, British paratroopers and a German patrol found themselves unexpectedly face-to-face in a house in Oosterbeek. Rather than fight, both sides called out 'pax'—peace. This moment of humanity amid war forms the heart of this blend.
The whisky itself marries Welsh and Dutch whiskies, triple-distilled and bottled at 44% ABV. Cocoa extract, port wine essence, and vanillin are added to the young spirit base, creating a smooth, mature-tasting character that belies its youth. The blend masks bitter notes and instead emphasizes desirable whisky character.
In the glass, PAX 44 reveals itself gently: fresh flowers and dried fruit on the nose, followed by vanilla and toffee on the palate. The chocolate notes introduced through the additions provide pleasant softness without overwhelming the whisky core. This is a dram that appeals equally to whisky enthusiasts and liqueur fans.
