Tormore 35 Year Old 1988 Sherry Butt Douglas Laing XOP x Scallywag

Malt Whisky 1989
Grand Château marks Glenfiddich's first release with an extended Bordeaux red wine cask finish—nine years in premium French casks following 22 years of maturation in American and European oak. This is not the standard Speyside expression: the prolonged Bordeaux finish transforms the distillery's familiar character into something richer and more wine-inflected, layered with fruit and tannin complexity absent from the core range.
After three decades of aging and nine years in fine red wine casks, this 31-year-old presents dark gold with a light red hue. The nose reveals warm vanilla, ripe cassis berries, and nutty undertones, while the palate unfolds with roasted apples, caramelised cherries, and warming spice. The finish stretches long and fruity, anchored by toasted oak.
This is Glenfiddich for those ready to move beyond the 12-year-old—a whisky that demonstrates how a Speyside distillery can experiment with wine finishes while retaining its core identity.
