Lagavulin 11 Year Old Sweet Peat
1 / 2

About

Lagavulin launches a new permanent expression: the 11 Year Old Sweet Peat. Developed by master blender Dr. Stuart Morrison, this Islay single malt targets a specific drinker—bourbon enthusiasts seeking greater complexity, or those encountering peated Scotch for the first time. The premise is straightforward: balance peat smoke with sweetness without surrendering Lagavulin's signature intensity. Matured exclusively in first-fill American oak ex-bourbon casks, the whisky draws its sweetness from fresh oak—vanilla, caramel, toffee—without drowning the smoke. This is deliberate: the bright wood does heavy lifting, tempering what might otherwise be harsher edges. On the nose, honeyed malt and citrus emerge (pear, lemon-lime), backed by medicinal smoke. The palate opens smooth and oily, starting with sweet malt and toffee apple, gradually building toward peat smoke and spice (ginger, oak). The finish is softer and rounder than the age alone would suggest—not a statement, but a conversation between smoke and sweetness.
