Octomore 13.2 is an experiment in extremes: Bruichladdich's wildest creation, born in 2008 as a laboratory test of how peaty whisky could become. The name honours Octomore Farm on Islay and the Gaelic 'Ochdamh-Mor' (eighth estate). This 5-year-old single malt was crafted from Concerto barley, peated to 137.3 PPM, and matured entirely in first-fill oloroso casks — a brutal marriage of smoke and sweet sherry.

The nose reveals rich orange and grapefruit, hints of clove and cinnamon, walnut and praline. Brown sugar, raisins and dried apple wrestle with gentle peat smoke. On the palate it is full and oily: sweet and spicy upfront, then fruitiness fades quickly, leaving drier, peppery notes. Dark berries, chocolate and a whisper of asphalt add depth. The finish brings toffee, orange peel and a touch of sulphur — a long, warm, complex close.

This is not a whisky for cautious drinkers. At 58.3% ABV and with that peat intensity, it demands respect. For those who embrace extremes.
