George Urquhart launched the Connoisseurs Choice range in 1968 to make whisky from rare distilleries available as single malts. This Heritage Collection celebrates his legacy, reviving the iconic map label that graced the series from 1988 to 1996. This Dallas Dhu, distilled in 1971 and now released in a limited set of just 100 wooden cases, is a precious remnant from earlier bottlings—a treasure recovered from the archives. Matured in refill American hogshead, this whisky displays the complexity that only extreme age can deliver. Despite its modest ABV (43.7%), the profile feels neither tired nor thin—there is body and warmth, with notes of waxed paper, dried apricots and honey, joined by walnut and mint. On the palate it is almost creamy, with an oily texture and a warmth that hovers between pepper and menthol. Citrus and apple provide brightness, while dried tobacco and sage emerge toward the finish. The finish is short but never dry—honey and a warming spice linger. This is no exhausted old profile, but a genuinely elegant statement.
