In October 2017, master distiller Billy Walker acquired GlenAllachie and revitalised the distillery with his distinctive vision. This Batch 7 Cask Strength is the result: a 10-year-old single malt unafraid of power and complexity. Matured in a combination of Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso sherry puncheons, Rioja barriques and virgin oak from Missouri, it delivers dark fruit, sweet spice and chocolate in a carefully calibrated whole.
The nose presents waves of heather honey, dried fruit and warm spices—cinnamon and nutmeg—followed by orange peel and mocha. The palate brings dark chocolate, figs and heather honey together with raisins, prunes and hints of citrus peel. The finish is long, warm and spicy, with nutmeg and resin giving way to dried apricot and lingering honey.
This is a whisky that pursues balance without compromise: the 56.8% ABV strength supports rather than overwhelms the rich, layered profile. For those who see cask strength not as harshness, but as clarity.
