About
Teeling's Wonders of Wood series pushes Irish Single Pot Still into experimental territory. This fourth release matures in virgin Carpathian oak sourced from ancient forests spanning Central and Eastern Europe—wood prized for its tight grain and rich tannins. Here, the oak doesn't play a supporting role; it commands the bottle. The mash bill follows Single Pot Still tradition: 50% malted and 50% unmalted barley, triple-distilled. Bottled at 50% ABV without dilution, the full impact of virgin wood comes through—vanilla and caramel from fresh oak, but also the sharp tannins that drive a long, dry finish. On the nose: rosewater and candied fruits. The palate brings strong spice mellowed by apple, pear, and sandalwood. The finish is clean and taut, oak tannin lingering well past the first sip. This is no gentle introduction to Single Pot Still, but a deliberate experiment in what rare wood can do to Irish whiskey.
