14 Year Old Virgin Oak Champions Selection 1

Virgin Oak

About

This is the inaugural Champions Selection from the Benromach Champions programme: a fan-curated, fully virgin oak-matured organic single malt. Benromach, owned by family-run Gordon & MacPhail, is celebrated for its subtle smoky character and unconventional woodwork – and this release exemplifies why the programme attracts serious whisky collectors. Fourteen years matured entirely in virgin oak, bottled at cask strength (57.7% ABV). The virgin oak was carefully air-dried and handcrafted into 250-litre hogsheads by Speyside coopers, creating direct, intense contact between spirit and wood – a path most distilleries avoid, yet one that yielded one of the most captivating single malts Benromach has released. On the nose: sweet and inviting, with vanilla and coconut hints backed by classic fruity notes. On the palate: woody character is pronounced but balanced by caramel and citrus. Oily mouthfeel, warm finish, lingering sweetness. Not for the faint-hearted – virgin oak demands attention – but for those willing to engage deeply with the Champions experience, this is a landmark expression.
