About
Talisker was established in 1830 by brothers Hugh and Kenneth MacAskill on the Isle of Skye, named after their family estate. Built by the sea, the distillery became one of the world's best-selling single malts by the early 1900s. The 10 Year Old is the core expression—an accessible entry point into Talisker's distinctive character. Matured in ex-bourbon casks, this whisky presents a distinctive profile. The nose opens cautiously with vanilla, melon, and honey, followed by a salty, mineral note reflecting the distillery's coastal setting. On the palate, smoke emerges—clean and peppery, with apple and a hint of iodine. The finish is dry and layered, with black pepper and lingering sweet peat. This is not a complex whisky, but an honest, well-balanced dram with a recognizable identity. The interplay of sweet peat and maritime minerals makes it ideal for those discovering Talisker's signature style without venturing into deeper expressions.
