About
Port Charlotte takes its name from the Islay village founded in 1828 by Laird Walter Frederik Campbell to honour his mother, Lady Charlotte Campbell. The original distillery operated from 1829 until 1929, when Prohibition and the stock market crash ended production. Bruichladdich revived the name as a modern expression, located two miles south of the main distillery. This 10-year-old is heavily peated yet refined in balance. The cask recipe blends first-fill Jack Daniel's Tennessee barrels (65%), second-fill French wine casks (25%), and American oak (10%), layering smoke and maritime salt with honey and citrus brightness. The result is a spirit-driven dram that feels elegant despite its intensity. Smoked fish, seaweed, and salted caramel greet the nose, with lemon notes emerging. The palate brings oak-driven smoke and salty sea air, tempered by honey, butter, and custard. The finish remains dry and smoky, with lingering sweetness that keeps it approachable.
