About

Old Pulteney was founded in 1826 by James Henderson in Pulteneytown, a newly built harbour district in Wick, far north in the Scottish Highlands. Named after Sir William Pulteney, whose philanthropic vision created the village, the distillery is inseparable from the region's fishing heritage — a character that emerges distinctly in the glass. This 12-year-old has matured entirely in ex-bourbon American oak casks, a straightforward approach that lets the spirit's coastal character shine. At 40% ABV, it strikes a balance between accessibility and depth, neither over-extracted nor thin. The colour is a clear golden amber. On the nose, vanilla and citrus — orange and lemon — mingle with mineral and briny notes that echo the distillery's seaside setting. The palate brings creamy cereal and fruit, then a wave of spice: pepper, clove, ginger. The finish is dry and peppery, with salt and oak lingering, a reminder of where this whisky was born.
