2008 18 Year Old Single Cask Bottled for Whiskybase

Bourbon Barrel

About

This is a classic Benromach from 2008, now mature at eighteen years old. Matured in a first-fill bourbon barrel and bottled exclusively for Whiskybase at a full 59.1% ABV, this single cask captures the distillery's signature character without compromise. Benromach is known for its oily texture and mineral poise, and this bottling exemplifies both. The nose opens softly with waxy tones and a mineral core: petrichor, wet pebbles, and ozone form the foundation. Beneath lie custard, butterscotch, and ripe lemons, with a gently smouldering hay note and hints of sunflower oil. The trademark Benromach smokiness carries a pleasant sweetness throughout. On the palate, it becomes more austere and less polished. Oily mouthfeel, leafy and ashy with delicate charcoal notes. Charred lemon peel, grapefruit, chalk, and a touch of liquorice add definition. A distinct salinity deepens the experience. The finish is medium to long, quite mineral, with subtle smoke that fades gradually. A whisky that wears its age well—satisfyingly mature, no decoration, exactly what Benromach should be.
