Willem by Willem is a collaboration between Laphroaig and actor Willem Dafoe, who worked with the distillery's blending team to select this 14-year-old single malt. The concept is striking: no fixed tasting notes, but an invitation for drinkers to define the flavour themselves. This reflects Dafoe's approach to acting — not a rigid interpretation, but space for personal discovery. The whisky spent 14 years maturing in American oak, then finished in hand-selected Oloroso casks. Bottled at cask strength (53.7% ABV) without chill-filtration, it retains Islay's full, uncompromising character. On the nose, deep peat and smoke announce themselves unmistakably. The palate brings sea salt, spice, and soft sweetness — the Oloroso finish adding layers of dried fruit and ripe cherry without drowning the peaty core. The finish is long and smoky, genuinely evolving in the glass in ways that resist easy categorisation.
