Compass Box was founded in 2000 by American entrepreneur John Glaser, formerly a marketing director at Johnnie Walker, with a mission to make Scotch whisky more interesting by breaking established conventions. The 3rd Edition CB reflects this philosophy — a carefully composed blended malt that balances smoky depth with bright, fruity character. This is not a heavily peated whisky, but rather a structured blend where roasted malts and lighter spirits find equilibrium. The composition reveals itself gradually on the palate, moving from honeyed sweetness and toffee into spicy, peppery territory, with a hint of coastal salt and smoke threading through. On the nose: citrus, tropical fruit, and floral notes emerge first, with salty and smoky undertones adding complexity. The palate delivers caramel and honey balanced by pepper and medicinal notes. The finish is dry and persistent, with dried fruit and smoke returning to close the arc.
