About
Compass Box was founded in 2000 by John Glaser, a former marketing director at Johnnie Walker determined to shake up Scotch whisky. Hedonism was their debut release and a quiet revolution: the first blended grain whisky to reach market at a time when grain spirits were dismissed as industrial filler. This 2024 edition proves why Compass Box has stayed true to that conviction — not by hiding grain whisky, but by championing it. The blend marries well-aged grain whiskies (15 to 26 years old) from Cameronbridge, Girvan, and other producers, matured in ex-bourbon casks. At 43% ABV, it retains natural texture without added softening. The nose opens with citrus brightness, vanilla, and honeyed sweetness. On the palate, tropical fruit and citrus play against toffee and a whisper of white pepper. The finish is clean, toffee and honey fading into subtle oak. This is grain whisky without apology — not layered in the way of complex malts, but mature and self-assured.
