Big Peat is a blended malt whisky from Douglas Laing that combines multiple Islay distilleries into one intensely characterful expression. This Fèis Ìle 2020 edition, named after the A846 road connecting the island's distilleries, is a limited release at just 8 years old. Despite its youth, this whisky displays mature character with a powerful, smoky identity. The nose reveals a complex profile: heavily peated with diesel and pine aromatics, complemented by fresh citrus notes and sweet melon undertones. On the palate, immediate intensity unfolds with sustained smoke now paired with cinder toffee and melon, while malty notes and peppery spice provide balance. The finish maintains that characteristic Islay smokiness with medicinal peat notes and a lightly ashy touch that never becomes overwhelming.
