Douglas Laing 2010 DL

About

Big Peat is Douglas Laing's iconic blended malt whisky, crafted exclusively from the finest Islay malts to create a robust and characterful dram. This 2010 DL bottling from the Remarkable Regional Malts series embodies the essence of Islay: intensely smoky, salty, and peat-forward with underlying sweetness. This is no subtle expression, but a fervent statement of island character that appeals to whisky enthusiasts unafraid of bold, assertive flavour profiles. The nose reveals layers of dense peat smoke mingling with maritime notes, seaweed, and iodine, interspersed with vanilla and hints of aniseed. On the palate, smoked tones dominate alongside toasted sugar, caramel, and cinnamon heat, wrapped in a creamy, milk-chocolate-like texture. The smoke is dense yet flavourful, with medicinal undertones and hints of green olives. The medium-long finish stays true to the peat-and-salt theme, closing on sweeter, vanilla-heavy notes that provide a satisfying conclusion.
