About
Ballechin is the peaty expression from the Edradour distillery in the Scottish Highlands, and this 2005 vintage exemplifies the distillery's ability to craft complex, characterful whisky. Matured in refill sherry hogsheads, it marries robust peat smoke with pleasant sweetness and sherry influence. At 55% ABV with 14 years of age, this bottling strikes an impressive balance between smoke, fruit, and oak maturity. On the nose, earthy notes emerge alongside fatty peat and plant-root aromas, with vanilla and liquorice underneath. The palate is juicy and fruity with a chewy texture, where toasted oak and wood char mingle with ripe yellow peaches and a hint of fennel. The finish is long and warming, filled with smoke, malt, and a pinch of cinnamon spice—a satisfying conclusion to this well-rounded dram.
