Scallywag The Chocolate Edition 2024 is a blended malt from independent bottler Douglas Laing's Remarkable Regional Malts series, a collection celebrating Scotland's diverse whisky regions. Scallywag showcases the distinctive character of Speyside—refined, elegant, and full of flavor—through a careful blend of mature single malts from the heartland. This 2024 edition takes a luxurious turn by finishing its Speyside blend, aged predominantly in Spanish sherry casks (PX and Oloroso), in fine port casks. The result is a whisky that truly lives up to its chocolate-forward name. The nose wraps you in warm, spicy cocoa with a distant hint of warm cherry jam. On the palate, creamy dark chocolate unfolds, joined by dried apricots, a whisper of Black Forest cake, and a touch of bay leaf. The finish is medium-length and lingering: dried fruit notes with a final flourish of chocolatey liquorice.
