Herfstspirit

Millstone 1999 Special No24
Zuidam Distillers, founded in 1975 in Baarle-Nassau, Noord-Brabant, has built its reputation on small-batch spirits made in-house. Smuggler's Trail is their "single blended" expression—a marriage of three pot still whiskies: a single malt, a wheat whisky, and a grain blend, each distilled separately in Zuidam's own copper stills.
Matured in sherry casks, the whisky develops a full, layered character. The name nods to the smugglers who once worked these borderlands—a fitting reference for a distillery located in a region with centuries of cross-border trade.
On the nose, apple and citrus emerge alongside warming spice. The palate is soft and rounded, with rye-like warmth and grain sweetness that speaks to its diverse grain bill. This is whisky without pretense—Dutch craft that tastes like what it is, not what marketing suggests it should be.
