Woodford Reserve
Woodford Reserve's story begins in 1812, when Elijah Pepper founded his distillery along Glenns Creek in Kentucky—a site now recognized as a National Historic Landmark. Under the stewardship of Oscar Pepper and master distiller James Christopher Crow (a Scottish distiller), the operation became a center for grain innovation and distilling craft.
The classic expression uses an unconventional grain bill: 52% wheat, 20% malted barley, 20% corn, and 8% rye. This composition sets Woodford Reserve apart from many competitors and shapes its distinctive character. The whisky matures in new, charred American oak barrels, allowing grain and wood flavors to develop prominently.
In the glass, Woodford Reserve reveals more than two hundred detectable flavor notes. The nose offers vanilla, honey, cherry, and apricot, complemented by subtle roasted corn. The palate brings fruity accents—red apple and peach—alongside spice notes of clove and cinnamon. The finish remains warm and substantial, with a pleasant interplay between sweetness and oak.
