Tomintoul began production only in July 1965, making this 1968 vintage one of the distillery's earliest releases—just three years into operation. The spirit matured for 43 years in an ex-bourbon hogshead before bottling in 2011 by The Whisky Agency's 'Private Stock' label, yielding just 78 bottles.
The nose is immediately fruity and fragrant, dominated by citrus notes. On the palate, a warm fruitiness emerges with subtle vanilla sweetness and honeyed undertones. What strikes most is the restraint: despite four decades in wood, the oak influence remains understated, almost whisper-soft. The finish is clean and straightforward, with a gentle spicy return to fruit.
