Old Pulteney was founded in 1826 by James Henderson in Pulteneytown, a newly developed harbour district in Wick on Scotland's far north-east coast. The distillery was accessible only by sea at the time and became the northernmost on the Scottish mainland. This maritime setting has shaped the brand's identity ever since.
The 18 Years matures for 18 years in ex-bourbon casks, finished in first-fill Oloroso sherry butts. This pairing brings warmth and complexity: bourbon contributes fruity character, while sherry adds richness and spice.
On the nose, chocolate, honey and creamy vanilla emerge, with hints of spice and citrus. The palate builds in layers—honeyed sweetness and gentle spices, followed by dried fruit, toffee and a whisper of smoke. The finish is medium-length, with a pleasant peppery note that echoes the distillery's maritime heritage.
