The Dalmore was founded in 1839 by Alexander Matheson, an ambitious Scottish merchant determined to craft an exceptional single malt. The distillery sits in Alness in the northern Highlands, overlooking the Cromarty Firth. Cigar Malt is purpose-built as a ritual object: a whisky designed to hold its own beside a fine cigar, matching its intensity without being overshadowed.
This expression blends three cask types. Seventy percent matured in 30-year-old Matusalem oloroso sherry butts, twenty percent in American white oak ex-bourbon barrels, and ten percent in Cabernet Sauvignon barriques. That combination anchors the whisky in dark fruit and chocolate, with layered complexity.
On the nose, sweet and savoury notes jostle for attention: fresh fruit, toffee, and malt form the foundation, joined by dark berries, espresso, and a hint of tobacco. The palate arrives velvety and full-bodied, with toffee, fudge, and chocolate set against spiced dark fruit in heavy syrup. The finish stretches long, with pungent tobacco and black cherry lingering.
This is a whisky for those who value ritual and depth—equally at home beside a cigar, dark chocolate, or a cup of espresso.
