Blended Mizunara Cask

The Daisen is a Japanese blended whisky crafted by Kurayoshi distillery, nestled at the base of Mount Daisen in Tottori Prefecture. This expression showcases a distinctive two-stage maturation: a minimum of 3 years in American oak casks, followed by a 3-month finishing period in Mizunara — the rare Japanese oak prized for its delicate aromatic signature.

Mizunara oak is the defining element here. This wood imparts floral notes, sandalwood, and cacao, lending the blend an exotic Oriental character that sets it apart from conventional blended whiskies. The interplay between American oak maturation and Mizunara finishing creates a bridge between familiar vanilla and caramel foundations and the more mysterious spice and woody notes of Japanese oak.
