Miltonduff is a distillery nearly two centuries old yet never quite established itself as a single malt presence – an unsung Speyside producer. Founded in 1824 by Robert Bain and Andrew Peary on land of the local Duff family, it has quietly delivered refined spirits, most often discovered through independent bottlers like Gordon & MacPhail.
This 2007 matured in sherry cask and was bottled at cask strength (60% ABV). The profile balances rich, nutty character – roasted almonds, Brazil nuts, walnut – with bright fruit: orange zest, prunes, speculoos spice. On the palate, cooking oils and camphor emerge alongside herbal broths and salted nuts, while the finish turns dry and peppery, bringing black cherry, orange, and a hint of tobacco smoke.
Despite its robust strength, the spirit demonstrates remarkable balance, with sweet and fruity notes anchoring the complexity throughout.
