Millstone 2017 Peated Oloroso Cask

Zuidam began in 1975 as a genever distillery, but Patrick van Zuidam — son of founder Fred — pursued a long-held ambition: Dutch single malt whisky made in the Scottish tradition. Millstone emerged in Baarle-Nassau, the name a nod to the millstones that grind grain for the distillery.

This 2017 vintage matured in oloroso casks, a deliberate choice Zuidam makes for Millstone's character. The peat adds layering: smoke plays with the dark, fruity notes drawn from sherry wood.

On the nose: chocolate, raisins, and cinnamon emerge. The palate is dry and complex — cocoa powder, cinnamon stick, and a delicate smoke that supports rather than overwhelms. The finish lingers warm, with brown sugar and a pleasant dryness that fades slowly.
