Millstone 2020 Amontillado Casks

Zuidam Distillers started in 1975 as Fred van Zuidam's small passion project in the border town of Baarle-Nassau. What began with liqueurs and genever evolved into a full whisky distillery. Millstone is the brand through which Zuidam tells its single malt story — each cask a distinct chapter.

This Special No. 33 spent four years maturing in Amontillado casks, the same dry sherry vessels traditionally used in Spain. That choice reshapes everything: where young whisky typically feels raw and unfinished, Amontillado brings maturity and texture early. The Dutch grain, double-distilled in small copper stills, emerges from the wood dark and full-bodied.

On the nose: dark and luscious, with the dried fruit and spiced warmth that Amontillado maturation delivers. Sultana, nutmeg warmth, a thread of hazelnut. The palate is luxurious without heaviness — a balance that feels surprisingly mature at four years. The finish lingers pleasantly, elegant, with a gentle sweetness that doesn't fade quickly.
