2016 Harmony of Eight – 2016/2024

1997
Strathmill was founded in 1891 as Glenisla-Glenlivet, but took its current name in 1895 when London gin producer W & A Gilbey purchased it. 'Strathmill' translates as 'the mill in the long valley' — a nod to its location on the River Isla in Speyside. This 24-year-old from 1991 is a rare find: matured in sherry butt, a cask choice that amplifies Strathmill's natural fruitiness.
Bottled in 2013 after more than two decades in cask, this whisky had ample time to develop in sherry wood. The nose reveals white grapes, coconut shavings, and ripe stone fruit — banana, papaya, pineapple — alongside honey and vanilla. On the palate it turns creamy and warm, dried fruit merging with citrus, floral honey, and buttery pastry notes. The finish unfolds slowly, with green apple, gentle spice, and dry oak.
This is a whisky that rewards patience — a touch of water opens the fruit further. A dram that reveals itself in layers, best savoured slowly.
