2018 Octave Barrels

Starward was founded in 2007 by David Vitale with a clear vision: to create whisky meant for sharing and enjoyment, not storing away as an investment. The Octave Barrels 2018 embodies that philosophy. This single malt was matured in smaller octave casks (100 litre) that previously held Barossa Shiraz — the intense wood interaction these vessels provide gives the whisky its rich, dark-fruited character.

All ingredients are sourced within a day's drive of the Melbourne distillery. The barley comes from Victoria and South Australia and is malted in Geelong. This Australian provenance — from grain to wine — sits at the heart of Starward's story: whisky that reflects the unique character of Australia.

On the nose, rich aromas of raisins, stewed fruit, plums and honey emerge, supported by toasted oak. The palate is viscous and robust, with dark forest fruit, jammy sweetness and warming spice — a signature of Starward whisky, shaped by Melbourne's climate. The finish is smooth and long, leaving a lingering impression of dried fruit and oak.
