12 Years Old 0,70 ltr 40%
Kujira Ryukyu represents an unconventional approach to Japanese whisky: distilled from fermented rice rather than barley by the Kumesen Syuzou distillery (founded 1952) in Okinawa. This 12-year expression matured entirely in sherry casks under subtropical conditions, creating a whisky that stands apart from Scottish tradition. The result feels less like homage and more like a deliberate alternative — whisky made on its own terms.
The glass reveals amber hues. The nose opens with wild honey and sherry aromatics, underpinned by subtle spice. The palate is dominated by sherry character, molasses, and glucose syrup, layered with intense fruit and delicate balsamic notes. The finish is sustained and evolving: initially bitter, then settling into a lingering sweetness reminiscent of cognac and rum.
