Three Cask Matured
Big Peat, 15th Anniversary
Big Peat was born in 2009 as part of Douglas Laing's Remarkable Regional Malts collection, a series representing each of Scotland's six whisky regions. This 15th Anniversary edition celebrates one and a half decades of a characterful Islay blended malt distinguished by its bold composition: exclusively a blend of Islay distilleries (Ardbeg, Caol Ila, Bowmore, and Port Ellen). Douglas Laing marks milestones with thematic limited editions, from Christmas releases to localised variants worldwide.
This bottling was predominantly matured in hand-selected Red Wine casks, offering an elegant counterpoint to typical Islay peatiness. At 50% ABV, it delivers a full, unfiltered experience without the rough edges of higher strength.
On the nose, medicinal smoke, coastal notes and dried seaweed emerge, complemented by roasted nuts and hints of vanilla. The palate delivers toffee, dark chocolate and subtle nuttiness, followed by a long, lingering finish of dry peat smoke. The Red Wine maturation adds warmth while preserving Big Peat's core identity.
