2018 Peat Port & Madeira Cask Finish
Linkwood was founded in 1821 by Peter Brown, a real estate agent who recognised the potential of vertical integration: barley from his own estate, a distillery to process it, and direct sales. That entrepreneurial spirit remains embedded in the brand. This 2007, bottled at 46.5%, displays Linkwood's classic Speyside signature: fruity and floral, with a dry, mineral edge that defines the distillery's character.
The nose reveals apple and lemon, followed by chalk and sweet boiled sweets. The palate is youthful and spicy on the attack, with apple juice and honey expanding across the mid-palate. The finish is relatively short but defined: caramel, maple syrup, and white pepper.
This is not a polished, modern Speyside – it has the directness and character of an unfiltered single malt. For those who value old-school Scottish whisky over contemporary refinement.
