2001 A Blend of Caol Ila & North British

VAT 69
In 2011, Jack and Stephen Teeling revived what their ancestor Walter had founded in 1782 and the city had lost in 1923: a distillery in Dublin's heart. Blackpitts—named for the historic malting district behind the distillery in the Liberties—marks Teeling's break with Irish whiskey convention, introducing substantial peat smoke to a tradition that rarely embraces it.
This cask strength single malt matured in ex-bourbon barrels and rum casks. At 56.5% ABV, the spirit carries smoke and heat while maintaining the sweetness and structure beneath—vanilla, maple syrup, and orchard fruit frame the peat rather than disappear under it.
The nose opens with earthy, bonfire-like smoke layered with apple skin and a subtle floral note. On the palate, oak spice and lemon zest cut through the smoke; the finish stays dry and smoky. This is not an Islay imitation—it's a Dublin whiskey finding its own voice.
