About
Ardmore is a peated Highland malt distinguished by its unusual blend of character. This 16-year-old from 2008, bottled by Dramfool, matured entirely in a bourbon cask that previously held a famous Islay single malt—a reference to the whisky's history during Prohibition. That previous occupant leaves its mark on the final complexity. The bourbon cask contributed vanilla and sweetness, while Ardmore's peated character retained its classic smoke. With only 129 bottles at cask strength (53.3%), this is a rare chance to experience a whisky where Highland and Islay meet without fully merging into one another. The nose reveals icing sugar and caramel sponge beneath a veil of smoke and brine. On the palate, peat smoke arrives with vanilla, joined by the distinctive TCP note Ardmore is known for. Water opens up citrus fruit—gooseberries and sherbet lemons—that tempers the sweetness.
