Tobermory was founded in 1798 on the Isle of Mull and stands among Scotland's oldest distilleries. The name honours the island's capital, while its peated expression trades under the name Ledaig (Gaelic for 'safe haven'). This 10-year-old has matured in ex-bourbon casks and is bottled non-chill filtered at 46.3%.
The nose is clean and malty, with sweet vanilla and a maritime saltiness characteristic of island distilleries. The palate brings gentle caramel and citrus fruit, followed by a restrained peppery spice that adds shape. The finish is warm and dry, with notes of clove and liquorice.
This is an approachable single malt with enough maturity to intrigue, yet without the intensity of heavily peated island whiskies. It demonstrates that Tobermory's story extends well beyond its well-known peated Ledaig sibling.
