Glina is eastern Germany's largest distillery, founded in 1991 by master distiller Michael Schultz in Brandenburg, near Potsdam and Berlin. This 8-year-old rye whisky was matured entirely in sherry casks—an unconventional choice for a German rye that softens the grain's heavier character and brings forward richer, more rounded notes.

Maturation in sherry wood sets this rye apart from its American cousins, which typically age in new bourbon barrels. Eight years is a substantial age for a rye whisky; the wood creates a bridge between the spiced, peppery backbone of the grain and the dried fruit and malty depth that sherry cask aging imparts.

On the nose and palate, sherry's ripeness emerges—raisins, apricots, sweet malt—layered over the grain's inherent spice and peppery warmth. This is a whisky that doesn't chase Scottish tradition, but instead builds its own path through deliberate, unconventional cask choices.
