Arran 1996 Premium Cask

2008 Distillery Exclusive Single Cask
Virgin Oak
In 2016, Glendronach ventured into uncharted territory with four new expressions, each finished in different wood. Virgin Oak stands apart for its maturation in fresh American oak casks—an unconventional choice that pushed the distillery beyond convention. This 14-year-old single malt was initially aged in European oak before finishing in virgin oak, a pairing that draws out intense wood character and tropical fruit notes.
The nose reveals pronounced toasted oak, vanilla, and apple, with underlying sandalwood. On the palate, the virgin oak takes centre stage: soft and silky, with raisins, allspice, and caramel, joined by ginger spice and a subtle sweetness of fresh sawdust. The finish carries that distinctive oak presence with a faint saline edge.
This whisky justifies the experiment. Fresh oak could easily turn harsh, but Glendronach's 14 years of maturity keeps it grounded—the result feels complete without sacrificing subtlety. Non-chill filtration and natural colour reinforce the authentic profile.
