The Balvenie was founded in 1892 by William Grant, the visionary behind Glenfiddich, and remains under family ownership today. The distillery stands apart among Speyside producers: it is the only one that maintains all five traditional crafts of whisky-making in-house, from malting to bottling. The name Balvenie derives from a nearby castle ruin.
This 15-year-old expression was matured in traditional oak casks for 14 years, then finished in vessels that previously held Madeira wine. That Madeira influence introduces a subtle, fruity dimension that extends beyond the standard Balvenie signature.
In the glass, a pale gold hue. The nose reveals berries, citrus, and grape must, with floral petal notes. On the palate, ripe peaches and fresh orange emerge, with hints of hazelnut and oak. The finish is delicate and woody, touched with vanilla and a whisper of pepper.
