(Ardbeg) Aged Dramfool
Dramfool's Red Bag series honours the legendary 'Red Bag' Ardbeg bottlings of decades past — vintage single casks that capture the distillery's character in its purest form. This 63rd release is a 2006 distillate matured for 17 years in an ex-bourbon hogshead, bottled at cask strength (57.2%) with just 249 bottles from a single cask.
This is an Ardbeg that shows restraint. The smoke is present but does not dominate — a fresh, light interpretation of what is now often a heavy, forced peat style. On the nose, a mineral elegance unfolds: sunflower and herbs, followed by citrus and ripe banana when water is added. On the palate, tropical fruits (pineapple, banana) lead above the peat, with a sweet citrus note and a spiciness that keeps the flavour challenging.
