2006 Barley
Bruichladdich's 2006 Barley embodies the distillery's core mission: transparency and terroir. This bottling uses Bere barley, a hardy heritage grain strain so robust it thrives on Orkney, yielding only about half the harvest of modern varieties. By sourcing locally and naming each expression after its grain, Bruichladdich makes provenance visible and traceable in every cask.
Matured in first-fill wood—which explains its citrus intensity—the whisky sits at 50% ABV and speaks plainly. The nose offers lime, pear, and green apple with a whisper of mandarin. On the palate, lime zest and lemon jump forward, juicy and sharp, with oak wood settling in at the end. The finish stretches long, green fruit giving way to vanilla and honey.
