2008 Micro Provenance Single Cask
Bruichladdich's Micro Provenance series investigates how every element of whisky-making shapes the final spirit—from barley selection to cask choice. This 2008 expression was hand-picked by Head Distiller Adam Hannett from the distillery's extensive inventory, embodying a philosophy that prioritizes quality and provenance over age statements alone. Crafted from publican barley and matured in a former Rivesaltes cask (a French naturally sweet fortified wine), it gained complexity and depth while retaining the coastal freshness characteristic of Islay.
At 61.2% abv, this dram unfolds without water, though a drop opens it further. The nose begins with sharp malt and vanilla, gradually yielding to citrus and spice. The palate carries those clean, bourbon-like notes forward with vibrancy, alongside the briny minerality that defines Bruichladdich. The finish is warm and persistent, balancing oak and sweetness.
