2008 Single Cask Oloroso

2004 Dun Bheagan
In 1995, Lochranza Distillery reopened on the Scottish isle of Arran, breaking a silence of over 160 years. The distillery pursued an ambitious path: not merely classical Scotch malt, but experimental cask finishes that marry French wine tradition with island character. This Sauternes Cask Finish exemplifies that vision—eight years of maturation in ex-bourbon casks followed by finishing in sweet Bordeaux wine casks, carefully selected by the master distiller.
The marriage yields something unexpected: a whisky that does not present itself as a Scotch classic, but as something between two worlds. The nose breathes wine—honey, ripe peach, tropical fruit like pineapple and melon—yet beneath that fruitiness, spice asserts itself. On the palate comes a warmth that tempers the sweetness: vanilla, toasted oak, and that spicy undertone the island malt refuses to release.
This is no subtle dram. At 68% ABV, it speaks without apology. The finish is long and full-bodied, that characteristic wine-driven sweetness lingering to the end.
