Glentauchers was founded in 1897 by blender James Buchanan to supply malt for his own blends—Buchanan's and Black & White. This 1990 cask, matured in a First Fill Sherry Puncheon, is a rare window into this understated Speyside distillery, bottled by Gordon & MacPhail at 53.8% ABV.
The sherry cask has given this whisky richness without overwhelming Glentauchers' subtle character. On the nose: sweet sherry, honey, and a hint of smoke. On the palate, a full, waxy texture develops with fruity complexity—citrus and melon, with hints of tropical fruit and floral notes.
This is a weighty whisky that rewards both drinking and contemplation. At 31 years of age, this is no light, elegant dram, but something with substance and flavour.
