Gold Label
Hinch Distillery sits just outside Ballynahinch in County Down, Northern Ireland—a name meaning 'town of the island' in Irish. Founder Aaron Flaherty brought 15 years of whiskey industry experience when establishing this young distillery, and the Small Batch Bourbon Cask signals his ambitions immediately: a deliberate blend of 25% single malt and 75% single grain, both matured three to four years in first-fill bourbon casks.
The combination of fresh bourbon wood and the high grain content delivers an accessible, soft character—the texture is buttery and creamy despite the modest 43% ABV. On the nose, fruity notes emerge, with hints of citrus and gingerbread spice. The palate unfolds with toffee and caramel, rounded out by vanilla custard and a whisper of honey. The finish is clean and dry, with wood notes that lightly anchor the fruitiness.
This is a dram without pretence—no unnecessary flourishes, just well-made whisky that speaks to both seasoned whisky drinkers and newcomers alike.
