1989 The Kinship Series 2022 Release

1996 The Sequences The Agency
The Kinship Series honours the legacy of Ian Hunter, the last of the Johnston family to own and manage Laphroaig. This 31-year-old from 1991 is a rare document of decades in which the distillery's heritage took shape — from its founding in 1810 by brothers Alexander and Donald Johnston through to the modern era.
After more than three decades in cask, this Islay single malt has achieved impressive maturity. At 47.1% ABV, it retains full character without the softness that often accompanies very old whisky. The nose reveals fresh citrus fruit and pepper, underpinned by Laphroaig's signature smokiness — not overwhelming, but integrated and restrained.
On the palate, structure emerges: dry, citrus-driven notes dance with dried fruit and that familiar smoke. The finish is present, with oak and smoke fading with grace. This is not an experimental release, but a bottling that proves Laphroaig's characterful identity comes into its own not just in youth, but across decades.
